Dr. Patricia Carolyn Coleman Lawson ("Cara") is from Lake City, South Carolina. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Coleman graduated from dental school at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in May 2012. After her time at MUSC, she completed the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program at Georgia Regents University in Augusta, Georgia. The program helped further her education in general dentistry as well as implant dentistry and conscious sedation. She is a current member of the South Carolina Dental Association.
Dr. Lawson grew up in a dental family and has long had an appreciation for the dental field. Her father was a dentist in Lake City, SC for 30 years and currently is the Assistant Director of the General Practice Residency at Georgia Regents University. She ultimately chose a career in dentistry for the sole purpose of helping people--not only by relieving their pain, but also by enhancing their everyday life by improving their smiles. Dr. Lawson loves the teaching aspect of dentistry, which was instilled in her by her mother, an elementary teacher of 35 years. During her time at MUSC, Dr. Lawson was a teaching assistant in both preclinical and clinical classes. Since graduation, she has done yearly cleanings at the elementary schools in Georgetown county and also participated in career day. She hopes that every child will know that they too can dream big and make their dreams a reality.
Dr. Lawson also enjoys serving her community through volunteer work. She has participated in Give Kids a Smile Day in Charleston, SC, as well as Dental Access Day in both Florence and Greenville, SC. She has also volunteered at the Helping Hands Clinic in Georgetown, SC. During her time at MUSC, Dr. Lawson expanded her volunteer work to Africa, where she and a team of dental students and dentists helped the people of both Uganda and Kenya. She loves traveling and giving back to those in need.
Dr. Lawson loves the beach and the water. You will never find her too far away from the coast! In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. She is an animal lover of all types, but has a big place in her heart for her adopted kitty, Riggy. Dr. Lawson has two brothers, one residing in Charleston, SC and the other currently in dental school at Georgia Regents University in Augusta, GA.
